Big Macs Too Much For Montour Spartan JV Squad In 4-1 Decision
By T LigouriFebruary 18, 2010
There are 3 periods in a hockey game. If you play only one and the other team plays all three, then usually you will not be successful. This was the case last evening as our Spartans were beaten by Canon Macmillan 4-1.
After an even first period of scoreless hockey the Big Macs would get things started at 4:47 of the second on a power play goal by Blair Oldaker assisted by Zack Swink and Emanuel Bernardt. Canon Mac would score again at 8:27 on a goal by Mike Scharff assisted by Kevin Lavorgna. The Big Macs led after two 2-0.
It looked like Montour would get back into this one when Assistant Captain Travis Clark scored a power play goal at 2:54 of the third period when he unleashed a slap shot from 30 feet that beat Big Mac goalie Ellyn Stanton high over her shoulder to make the score 2-1 in favor of CM. Assisting on the goal was callup Brian Gerstel. Gerstel has been a solid, steady two way player as of late and should continue to improve as he moves into the JV ranks. The Spartans gave up another goal just 19 seconds later to go behind 3-1. The Big Mac goal was scored by Blair Oldaker again for her second of the evening, assisted by Carmen Dalesandro who just came back after an injury sidelined him for six weeks. Canon Mac would seal the deal at 10:51 of the third on an empty netter by Caleb Diesel assisted by Zack Swink to make it 4-1.
Our JV Spartans have just two games left in the regular season before tier playoffs start. Monday February 22nd against Wheeling Central on the Island at 8:50pm and Friday March 5th against Upper Saint Clair at the Ice Castle in Castle Shannon at 9:00pm.
