Montour JV Spartans Again Tie Chartiers Valley 2-2

Last nights game between the Montour Spartans and Chartiers Valley Colts Junior Varsity hockey teams had all the excitement a fan of the game could ask for. This one was not for the faint of heart as our Spartans tied the Colts for the second time in ten days by identical scores of 2-2. This was a case of two evenly matched teams going at it for 6 periods and not resolving a thing. The game had a little bit of everything including fisticuffs and a rare penalty shot. The Spartans played a good part of the second and third periods shorthanded sometimes by two players, but the defense was able to rise to the occasion and shut the Colts down as the game ended due to curfew with a little over 4 minutes to play. Goaltender Jim Brutt played a solid game as usual stopping 25 of 27 Colt shots.

Montour started the scoring off on a power play goal just 1:28 into the game on a Sasha Bittner tally assisted by Adam Jaworski. The Colts tied the score with 2:34 remaining in the first period on a goal by Kevan Kocak assisted by Robert Ferrari. The period ended tied 1-1.

Chartiers Valley took the lead on a power play goal at 3:08 of the second period off the stick of James Altvater assisted by Brian Pustay. Not to be outdone our Spartans knotted things up again with 2:12 remaining in the second when Brian Boyle poked in a loose puck sitting in the crease unattended after a flurry of Spartan shots. Getting assists on the second Spartan power play goal of the game were Jaworski and " Mr. Reliable", Austin Kronz. The period ended tied 2-2.

There would be no further scoring in the game albeit plenty of opportunities for both squads including a penalty shot awarded to the Spartans when forward Assistant Captain Travis Clark went in on the CV goaltender all alone only to be tripped up from behind at 1:18 of the third period. Clarks penalty shot attempt was unsuccessful and the teams played on until time ran out on the curfew clock abruptly ending the game.

"Our boys left it all out on the ice tonight. They gave it their all. We have no complaints about their overall performance, although we are still growing as a team. Look for good things out of these guys. The new CARDIAC KIDS !" The JV Spartans face the Baldwin Highlanders on Monday evening, November 23, 2009 at 7:30pm in the friendly confines of Island Sports Center. Our Spartans record is a solid 3 wins 2 loses and 2 ties and hope to stick one in the win column. Be There !!!
