Montour JV Hockey Team Loses Season Finale 3-0 To Upper Saint Clair

Despite losing the game to powerhouse Upper Saint Clair, the score did not reflect the total effort put forth by Montours junior varsity squad. Outshot in the game 36-12, the score remained 0-0 after almost two periods of play.

At 8:22 of the second, the Panthers finally solved Montour goalie Jim Brutt on a goal by Nicholas Berardonz assisted by Killan Mulkeen to take a 1-0 lead. USC would pad their lead with just 10 seconds to go in the second period on a powerplay goal scored by Ian Gilbert assisted by Sean Allebrand to lead after two, 2-0.

The Spartans put together their best period in the third getting numerous scoring opportunities but could not beat Panther goalie Michael Ambrose who earned the eventual shutout 3-0 after teammate Ian Gilbert scored his second of the night assisted by Taylor Horrocks.

The JV Spartans finished the regular season with 7 wins, 8 defeats, and 3 ties for a 0.472 winning percentage, good enough for 8th place out of 15 teams in section 1 with 17 points in the standings. Montour scored 53 goals and gave up 42 goals. This was not a bad season considering all the changes they endured including, losing key players to the varsity level, injuries, suspensions, and a young, inexperienced lineup.

The JV Spartans will resume practice on Sunday evening and await the news of what tier they will play in during the end of the season tournament which will be held in Indiana, Pa. later this month. Stay tuned for some more exciting JV hockey !
